Rolfing

Developed by Dr. Ida Rolf as a way to “restructure” the body, Rolfing/Structural Integration has wide-ranging therapeutic benefits. Following are the most frequently asked questions about this highly effective bodywork technique.

What Is Rolfing/Structural Integration?

littleboylogo

Rolfing/Structural Integration is a proven method of bodywork that reorganizes the connective tissues, called fascia, throughout the body. Its effectiveness lies in Dr. Ida Rolf’s insight that the body functions most effectively when its supporting structure is balanced in gravity and is therefore most at ease.

More than fifty years ago, Dr. Rolf recognized the body to be a seamless system of tissue networks—and not a collection of separate parts, as had previously been believed. These connective tissues surround, support, and penetrate all of the body's muscles, bones, nerves, and organs.

Rolfing/Structural Integration concentrates on this web-like complex of connective tissues to release, realign and re-balance the entire body.

How Can Rolfing Structural Integration Help Me?

It is estimated that more than a million people, from all walks of life, have benefited from Rolfing Structural Integration. Athletes, dancers, and actors seek it out to help improve performance. It is beneficial for everyone, from children to stressed or desk-bound business professionals.

Rolfing/Structural Integration can dramatically alter posture and structure. It can ease pain and chronic stress, improve flexibility, revitalize energy, and improve performance in professional and daily activities by leaving you feeling more comfortable in your body.

Does Research Support Rolfing Structural Integration?

Yes. Research shows that Rolfing Structural Integration creates a more efficient use of the muscles, allows the body to conserve energy, and creates more economical and refined patterns of movement.

Fascial research over the past decade has found Fascia to be both the organ of structure as well as the organ of communication, as it contains a network of nerves. The first “Fascial Conference” took place the year I graduated from the Rolf Institute.

10-Series Rolfling

What are the Benefits of 10-Series?

Ida P. Rolf once said, and I'm paraphrasing,  that the 10-series is like one session in ten parts. The nervous system couldn't take it all at once! Each session has a focus. Each session building on the last and preparing the body for the next. The benefit is a complete restructuring, or reorganization, of the body.

"This is the gospel of Structural Integration. When the body gets working appropriately, the force of gravity can flow through it. Then, spontaneously, the body heals itself." -Ida P. Rolf

Ultimately, you feel better balanced and aligned in gravity. The process of the 10-series involves you, thereby increasing your awareness of how you are in your body. It brings functional ease to your structure. With this ease can come increased energy.

My clients that commit to the 10-series are committed to self-care and to feeling their best. They like the process of self-discovery and developing better self-awareness.

Women's Pelvis Class

Correct tone of the pelvic floor adds stability and health to our overall structure. From a Rolfing Structural Integration perspective we will explore the anatomy of the pelvis and how to bring balance and integrity from the inside out by connecting to the muscles that make up our pelvic floor, among other things.

I am offering this 90 minute class to individuals or groups of women. You organize a group that is interested and we’ll find a space and time that works.

Wear comfortable clothing and bring a scarf or two. Feel free to contact me with any questions.

Cost is $50-$25 depending on class size (4-8 women per class). Private session at my normal rate.

Relax before or after your session in the sauna. Add on for $75 for 90 minutes. Bring a friend at no extra cost or enjoy alone. You will have access to studio shower if desired. Bring towel(s).

INFRARED SAUNA uses light to make heat. Rather than warming the air which then warms you, infrared heats your body directly without warming the air.
